The Cathedral of Havana or the Cathedral of San Cristobal/ St. Christopher is in the Plaza de la Catedral in the centre of Old Havana. The groundbreaking was in 1748 and was completed in 1777. It had some restoration done recently in anticipation of the visit of Pope Francis. The Pope met with Fidel Castro during the day on Sunday, September 20, 2015 before finishing his day with a vespers service in this cathedral. At 9:30pm he retired to the residence of the Papal Ambassador in Havana.
